The Council

Mandate

The Teachers Council of Seychelles (TCS) is a professional body for teachers in Seychelles.

The overall mandate of the Teachers Council of Seychelles in accordance with the Education (Teachers Council Seychelles) Regulation 2021, is to promote and regulate the teaching profession.

The purpose therefore is to serve the public interest by providing a legal framework that regulates and contributes to the improvement of standards in the teaching profession.

Functions

To register teachers in Seychelles who meet the legal requirements

Promote teaching as a profession

Establish and maintain codes of conduct and ethics for teachers

Ensure maintenance of high professional standards

Conduct research on matters concerning the teaching profession

Promoting and Regulating the Teaching Profession

Teachers are able to operate within the provision of the law – because teacher registration is a legal requirement in Seychelles

Established standards and code of ethics for teachers

On going professional development opportunities

Motivate prospective candidates to join the profession

The quality of teaching and learning is improved

Raise status of the teaching profession

Ensure good quality teaching and learning

We will

  • Produce and disseminate the Board’s regulatory approach
  • Develop an annual risk strategy
  • Implement best practice when making or taking regulatory decision

We will

  • Develop and implement a registration framework by establishing procedures and criteria for the registration of teachers and the renewal process
  • Produce relevant documentation and databases
  • Keep the Ministry informed of the profile of the teaching profession on an annual basis
  • Develop the registration of teachers using latest technology and design principles to ensure satisfactory customer experience

We will

  • Work with relevant stakeholders to establish and maintain a code of conduct and ethics for teachers.
  • Provide advice and guidance on the creation of a Career Progression Framework ranging from the induction stage to executive leadership
  • Conduct and communicate research on matters concerning the teaching profession
